Naturalist urges fishermen to bring their lines in to avoid entangling whales

A naturalist who spotted a young humpback whale entangled in fishing gear last week appealed to the fishing public to bring their lines in if they see a whale and stay at least 100 feet away until it moves on.
Laura Lilly, a naturalist with Boston Harbor City Cruises and the New England Aquarium, said she spotted the whale at around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday and photographed it to document and catalog it.
After she looked at the photographs, she noticed that its fluke, or tail, was entangled in fishing gear.
