    When the Ice Bucket Challenge went viral in the summer of 2014, Pete Frates' fundraising push swept the nation and the globe, raising millions of dollars and changing the course of ALS research almost overnight.
    Florida golfer Chris Kennedy is credited with launching the idea of dumping an ice bucket over one's head to raise money for charity that summer. Frates, who had amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and who was one of the early participants of the icy activity, is credited with organizing the Ice Bucket Challenge as an ALS-focused fundraising network, promoting it on Twitter.
